Apply to become a member of this enrichment program!

If selected, you will join a network of pre-college students who explore and experience the world of science, technology, engineering, math, and computers at Sci-TEC events throughout the year. Meet new friends with similar interests, engage in fun team challenges, and explore related careers. The Academy will launch you into experiences that enhance YOUR FUTURE!

 

Mission
A career and leadership program for youth in 8th through 12th grade which:

  • Encourages pre-college students to pursue STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) interests
  • Recognizes and rewards participants for Academy activities and other select STEM programs
  • Builds a network of Sci-TEC friends for many years to come
  • Connects young people with northeast Indiana community and industry representatives

Challenge Night Descriptions

Schedule for Challenges

    Purdue Fort Wayne faculty and Industry partners share career stories and information.

 

Eligibility and Requirements for membership

 

The 2019-20 membership maximum is 25-30 participants. Notification of acceptance will occur shortly after the application period is closed.

  • Grades: 8th grade (current or upcoming fall) through 12th grade students
  • STEM Participant: Applicants must have participated in at least one of the following activities: a STEM Summer Exploration, FIRST LEGO League or any FIRST program, Indiana Future City, Math Counts, Science and Engineering Fair, Engineers Week Middle or High School Bridge Contest, Girls that Code, attended a Campus Visit at Purdue Fort Wayne, or is a former SciTec member
  • Approval: Signature of Parent or Guardian required for those under 18 years old or applicant if over 18 after acceptance into program

Application procedures

Applications are open each September

  • Complete application and include a student profile listing past STEM activities. Write a short paragraph describing your interest and why you would like to be selected.
  • Provide one name on application of an adult other than a parent or family member (example: teacher, guidance counselor, youth mentor, STEM competition coach, etc.) who could recommend you.
  • Cost: There is no cost to apply. If selected, a participation fee of $75, or $50 for past members, is required upon student’s confirmation. If you are in need of assistance for a financial scholorship, you will still need to apply and you will be prompted on the application for futher information.
